These eight photographs represent spaces where prostitutes work by the side of the road, near my hometown in Barcelona. It is a melancholic geography of ruins and ruined lives, of migrant workers and golf courses, which seem to come together in so numerous Spanish landscapes. In one of the pictures, as someone once observed to me, a sacred mountain is visible in the distance, behind the trees, where it is said that a statue of the virgin Mary was once found inside a salt mine.
But this is just a coincidence.
